Plutarch, in his biographical writings, tells us that Archimedes would become so completely absorbed in his geometry that he would draw diagrams in the ashes of his fireplace or use the oil on his skin as a canvas while he was bathing.

Plutarch ... tells us that ...

- in his biographical writings 是插入语,说明出处; - that 引导宾语从句,从句内部是 so ... that ... 结果状语结构; - so completely absorbed in his geometry 表示程度; - that 后面是结果:两个并列的谓语 would draw ... or use ...; - while he was bathing 是时间状语从句。

It is amazing how many wonderful discoveries have come from such humble places!

  • 主干:It is amazing(形式主语结构)。
  • 修饰与从句:how many wonderful discoveries have come from such humble places 是真正的主语从句(由 how 引导的名词性从句)。

(Plutarch, in his biographical writings, tells us that...),增强叙述的可信度。
