The early Pythagoreans so revered the founder of their Brotherhood that it was considered impious for a member to claim any discovery for his own glory, but all must be referred back to the master himself. It is told that the Pythagorean Hippasus was justly drowned at sea in a shipwreck as punishment for irreverently claiming the discovery of the regular dodecahedron.
